Churchill County School Board Updates: Trustees Applaud Work-based Learning Program

The Churchill County School Board heard a work-based learning program update, recognized the Greenwave All-State Choir students and state wrestling champions and considered a request from the Numa Elementary School student council during the Feb. 26 regular meeting.
During a program update, Sue Segura, the district’s Work-based Learning coordinator, said the key components of the program are internships and job shadows, apprenticeships, on-the-job-training, classroom-integrated projects, industry tours and career fairs. Segura encouraged the trustees to look at the data including the fact that the number of Churchill County High School students who are pre-admitted to and actually enrolling at the University of Nevada, Reno has increased by 200% in the last three years. Nevada Libraries Launch Workforce Development Program with VR, Librarians-in-Residence

Nevada’s libraries have long been an important part of the state’s workforce development programs, and in June, the state’s Board of Examiners approved a new librarian-in-residence program for two municipal systems—the North Las Vegas Library District and the Carson City Library—that will boost those efforts. For two years beginning last month, these librarians-in-residence will facilitate an Individual Career Mapping (ICM) and Training Delivery Model program developed by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) with libraries throughout the state. In a bold move, Fallon’s own Sue Segura (a.k.a Dr. Sue) unexpectedly stepped out of retirement in January and returned to her CCSD roots. But not to sit behind a big desk or in a board room, as one might expect of someone with a Ph.D. and 37 years in education.
